Finalist in the Zero Boundaries Competition 2009

Step by Step is a photographic scale designed to register, evaluate and display daily changes in the user’s body. The user would be able to create every day a single picture of his/her journey to a better physical condition. This daily pic would be considered as a frame of amovie of success, motivating the user and preventing him from slowing down his/her efforts.

Problem Description

Most of the reasons why people stop doing a physical activity, following a diet, or changing eating regimens are because they do not notice relevant changes on their appearance in a short period of time leading them into frustration, lost of desire to change and apathy. Also conventional scales measure just one single factor, weight, but there are many benefits that are not regularly considered, like better muscular tone, clearer skin, self assurance communicated by body language, stress relief, and many more. Just as an example, one person could star jogging every day looking forward to loose some weight. After the first three weeks the user notices that he/she weight the same, and feels disappointed. What is not considered is that he/she gained muscular mass, (muscles are heavier than fat).

Solution Proposed

Step by step is a photographic scale capable of recording relevant information that other way would not be able to compare it, showing in a frame/dairy photo a track of the user’s evolution during a specific physical transformation, like going for a diet, starting a new gym routine, or pregnancy, and includes personalized tips and encouraging phrases in order to motivate the user. After capturing the information, which basically will be the user’s weight, daily photo, and the personal program this user is following according to his/her profile, the internal software of the scale will register and compare the info with past entries displaying an overall status of the progress and showing the relationship of photo/time/weight up to date. Then it will print a frame/daily pic to be filed by the user in his/her personal diary. The user can also take that photo and paste it in places where the reminder of that photo is important, like the gyms blackboard, a stationary bicycle or the fridge.

[cincopa 10561805]

User’s secuence

Step by Step is a photographic scale designed to register, evaluate and display daily changes in the user’s body. The user would be able to create every day a single picture of his/her journey to a better physical condition. This daily pic would be considered as a frame of a movie of success, motivating the user and preventing him from slowing down his/her efforts.

The reasons why the uses of the Zink technology are relevant to the product are:

a) Instant photographic quality, not reachable by other printing systems.

b) Reliability, it does not depends of maintenance, and reduces the material input requirements to a simple function, paper feeding.

c) Color fidelity, is quite important to capture the most minimal detail in order to appreciate small changes like color of skin or tooth whitening.

The final format of this product is 6 x 4, and the general dimensions are 30 x 60 cm.

Time is a cruel mistress, it restrain us to live in one single moment at the time, limiting our perception to one perception of the present moment with a unpredictable length. Where all are chained to this place and time, and it is up to us us choose to be free. This watch is claims we can be handcuffed to a watch, but we will never be slaves of time.

ZeroPointZero is a conceptual watch looking for transcend the universe of ideas, break into reality and capture peoples imagination. It is designed to be a trouble maker, the bad guy of watches.

This aluminum handcuff will tell you when is time to go home after a long night of partying. Its red led display will glow in the dark and expose second by second, your hunger for being different.

Inspiration

Preamble to the instructions on how to wind a watch

Think of this: when they present you with a watch, they are gifting you with a tiny flowering hell, a wreath of roses, a dungeon of air. They aren’t simply wishing the watch on you, and many more, and we hope it will last you, it’s a good grand, Swiss, seventeen rubies; they aren’t just giving you this minute stonecutter which will bind you by the wrist and walk along with you. They are giving you – they
don’t know it, it’s terrible that they don’t know it – they are gifting you with a new fragile and precarious piece of yourself, something that’s yours but not a part of your body, that you have to strap to your body like your belt, like a tiny, furious bit of something hanging onto your wrist. They gift you with the job of having to wind it every day, an obligation to wind it, so that it goes on being a watch, they gift you with the obsession of looking into jewelry-shop windows to check the exact time, check the radio announcer, check the telephone service. They give you the gift of fear, someone will steal it from you, it’ll fall on the street and get broken. They give you the gift of your trademark and the assurance that it’s a trademark better than others, they gift you with the impulse to compare your watch with other watches. They aren’t giving you a watch, you are the gift, they are giving you yourself for the watch’s birthday.

Acrobat Play is a new baby stroller conceptual design for the busy urban European parents who constantly have to commute on street where vehicles (cars, bicycles, buses, etc.), narrow sidewalks and crowded spaces constantly endanger strollers.

In Europe, life happens in the streets. The concept of privacy and private property is supplanted by reduced housing, temporal job and public transportation. Space is a luxury, and personal life is develops in public spaces. This is the environment for the next generation of Europeans, one child families with enough acquisitive power to cover sophisticated demands. The baby becomes the center of the family, and all the object around him/her are on the spotlight. Security, nurturing, and fashion are the bases of the product designs for this market.

An acrobat is a top performer, able to consistently balance entertainment, security and dynamism. This stroller was created to put the direct user, a baby from 0-3 years, in the spotlight. This light weight aluminum structure stroller counts with four laser projectors at the side, which creates a virtual space all around the stroller, this virtual space allow has the following objectives.

1. Improves user’s spacial perception. Normally parents have too many things on mind, long periods of lack of sleep and stress is a constant factor. The virtual space system allows them to project visual guidelines in order to prevent bumping into a person or object, avoid possible damages on the stroller and easily circulate trough small spaces.
2. Easy visualization for vehicles on movement in low visibility conditions like poorly illuminated roads, rain or snow.
3. Innovation is highly valued on this market. Nowadays, European couples prefer to have one child, each means the possibility of locating more economical resources, time and caring, which means that any small feature can be an important factor to consider acquiring a stroller.
